Scholarships

The Marshall Community Foundation is pleased to announce the offering of scholarships providing enrichment opportunities for Marshall Public Schools students and teachers of all grade levels.  The scholarships are endowment funds provided through the generosity of donors, families and friends of the community. Be sure to check the applications for their due date.

Student Scholarships

The Dorothy Goddard Capman Poetry Award is offered only in even years through the Marshall Community Foundation to aspiring writers at the Marshall Middle School. Each contestant may submit up to three (3) entries. The Awards are as follows: 1st- $100, 2nd- $75, 3rd- $50; and Comic Muse 1st- $50 and 2nd- $25. All winners will receive a copy of Selected Poems by Dorothy Capman and other volumes written by the judges. Contestants earning honorable mention will also receive Dorothy's Selected Poems.

The Don & Ruth Chadderdon Music Scholarship is awarded to Marshall High School instrumental music students seeking a career in teaching or performance either after graduation or during high school for music camps, seminars or summer programs in instrumental music, such as but not limited to the Interlochen Music Camp.

The Phillip R. Clissold Music Scholarship is awarded to a Marshall Public School (Grade 7-11) student of choir wishing to attend the Western Michigan University summer music seminar. The scholarship provides one (1) $200 award to the recipient.

The Tom & Lucy Franke Education Enrichment Scholarship for Students provides support to Marshall Public School students wishing to participate in enrichment programs such as:  Seminars; Fine Arts, Math and Science Camps; Regional, National or International travel for educational purposes and other enrichment opportunities. The maximum scholarship award is $500.00 per recipient.

The Thomas B. Sullivan Memorial Scholarship has been established to encourage participation in enrichment programs to students of the Marshall Public Schools .  The scholarship provides financial support to students willing to raise half of the necessary funds for participation in an enrichment activity. The scholarship may support (but not limited to) enrollment in activities such as Philmont National, Boy & Girl Scout Camps, Interlochen Music Camp, Close-Up program, educationally related travel, school choir/orchestra/band programs and FFA enrichment activities.

The James E. Tarmnel Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Marshall Public School students grades 4th – 12th and is available from the beginning to the end of each school year for a one time school-related program or event. This may include, but is not limited to, 6th grade camp, class field trips, and music trips. The scholarship does not apply toward fees for playing sports and music instrument rental. This scholarship is available only by nomination from the students teacher and/or school personnel.

Teacher Scholarships

The Tom & Lucy Franke Education Enrichment Scholarship provides scholarships for teachers and counselors who need assistance in developing programs such as, but not limited to:

  • Special units in science, math or fine arts
  • For facilitating field trips
  • Develping pilot classroom projects
  • Hosting guest speakers

The Vyda Mumby Educator Recognition Award provides Marshall Classroom teachers, special teachers and counselors with additional educational opportunities for their students.  A total of no less than $25,000 is awarded annually. The award may be used to fund:

  • Educational materials for the classroom
  • The facilitation of innovative projects
  • Continuing education costs which are not covered by the Marshall Public Schools
  • Major student field trips or presentations
  • Travel expenses for an educator to enhance curriculum
