MCF Seeking Youth Advisory Council Advisor- deadline to apply August 24


Position:  Advisor, Youth Advisory Council

The Marshall Community Foundation (MCF) seeks a dynamic, self-starter to leadits Youth Advisory Council. YAC is a permanent advisory committee of MCF, with the primary responsibility of making funding recommendations for grants from the Foundation’s endowed Youth Fund. YAC’s main objectives include:

  • Assessing needs, assets and priorities for area youth in order to make informed grant-making decisions
  • Promoting youth volunteerism and youth leadership
  • Increasing the size of the Youth Fund through fund development activities
  • Lead YAC members in organizing, planning and running meetings.
  • Ensure all meeting agendas and materials are distributed prior to YAC meetings.
  • Develop and accurately maintain annual YAC budget.
  • Mentor and contribute to the personal growth of YAC members.
  • Provide annual orientation to new YAC members, and encourage current YAC members to plan and lead new member orientation.
  • Be knowledgeable about youth-oriented community needs, and inform YAC and MCF Board members about these topics. 
  • Assess the diversity of area youth, and ensure YAC membership is representative of it. 
  • Connect to community opportunities, and inform the community of YAC initiatives. 
  • Work with YAC members to spearhead and participate in four community service activities annually. 
  • Be knowledgeable of potential community partners with whom MCF can collaborate.
  • Serve as the liaison between YAC and MCF Board of Directors. 
  • Attend MCF Board meetings. 
  • Attend MCF Executive Committee meetings, as possible.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree, or 3-5 years’ equivalent work experience in related field.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work successfully in a self-directed environment, as well as coordinate shared projects as part of a team
  • Problem assessment and solving
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Flexibility and adaptability

Start date:  Position will remain open until filled 

Hours:  Up to and no more than 520 hours every 12 months; 25 percent of the time in-office
